Send us your stuff!
Curious Curls is excited to review your work and help get you published!
We accept manuscripts for all creative works, but we are most interested in full-length fiction and poetry projects. Novels, collections, and chapbooks are some of the most common submissions. Do not feel limited, however! We also welcome nonfiction, children's books, and other content as well. Just keep us curious!
Our response time is typically under four months, but this can vary depending on the volume of submissions. If we do not respond, feel free to reach out and check the status of your submission.
General Submission Guidlines
General Submission Requirements:
Include a cover letter.
Make sure all files are in DOC, DOCX, or PDF format.
There are no length requirements. There should be enough content to span at least 40 pages, however.
If your project is a simultaneous submission, please notify us that your work has been accepted elsewhere.
Keep us curious!
If you have any questions about the submission process via email, contact: firstname.lastname@example.org.
Frequently Asked Questions
Anyone is eligible to submit! We encourage both emerging writers and established writers to submit work, especially if they have a curious mind or soul!
How many books do you publish each year?
We now publish a handful of titles each year. Will we publish more each year? We are waiting to see what the future holds, but we sure hope so!
What kind of works do you accept?
Our description above may be vague, but that's intentional! We encourage manuscripts and projects of all kinds because we are open to seeing what you want to share with the world! While we encourage the idea of curiosity, that might be something as simple as having an observant character or an intriguing way of exploring an idea. Even if you think your project might not be a perfect fit, submitting can only help get your work out there!
When do you accept submissions?
We accept general submissions year-round! This may change in the near future based on the growing volume of submissions we receive and as we shift toward soliciting specific authors. The best way to keep up-to-date is by subscribing to our newsletter from the home page or by following us on social media.
Do you read every submission?
Yes we do! We try to respond to everyone who submits as well. Be sure to email us if you have not heard back on the status of your submission in over four months!
Do you edit submissions?
Yes, but fear not! Once we find a project or manuscript we like, we work closely with the author to make sure both parties are satisfied with the outcome.
Does submitting cost me money?
We do not charge for submissions.
Does submitting earn me money?
We absolutely compensate authors and other artists for their work! We are a small and newly started press, meaning we cannot yet afford to give out gold bricks. We provide a small base award and a very fair percentage of royalties made from book sales. We do give an advance.
Are you a traditional publisher?
That depends what you mean by traditional! We are small, so we may not function like familiar big publishers. We do take care of marketing, distribution, and other forms of promotion for our authors. Nothing comes out of our authors' pockets; we are not a vanity press. We recommend doing personal research on different types of presses before submitting your work to see if we might be a good fit for you.
